Has anyone tried this before?
Is there a paper on the subject yet?

Well, I guess I'll answer my own question. Here's a link I found on the web:

This is now a year old, of course.
I would be interested to know if your pressure freezing experiments have produced some good results.

Hi,
We have been able to measure protein samples prepared with pressure freezing, but large and non-repeatable background remains a problem.
The solution would involve preparation of macro- and mesoscopically homogeneous amorphous ice in at least ~0.1 mm diameter pieces and with electron density close to normal water. So far, we have not been able produce such samples.

Thanks for your reply Teemu.
By "background", do you mean that the background subtraction was poor (due to multiple phases of ice present), or do you mean that the electron density contrast between protein and solvent was poor in the amorphous state?
Is your group continuing to work on this project?
