Question about Kratky camers

Detectors, sample changers, home sources, nanomanipulation tools, add-ons (Raman spectrometer, HPLC), gas phase scattering etc.

Question about Kratky camers

#1 Post by spark » 2012.05.02 22:25

Hi,
I have never measured with a Kratky camera, but came across one recently. I wondered if one has to do even with the recent models this smearing I have read about in textbooks?
Could anybody give a comment about this issue or is this not necessary any longer?
Kind regards
Spark.

Hello spark.

I have been working with KKKs quite a time (installation, service, training, etc...) and yes, you can apply smearing algorithms like that of O. Glatter and/or Singh and Gosh (scripts.iucr.org/cgi-bin/paper?pn0129).

Fell free to contact me, if you want to know more about it.

SAXIST,
Thank you for your reply.
But is a smearing necessary or would it work in principle as well when I would not do a smearing? It is more a theoretical question as I don't have any Kratky camera, but I just wondered.
Thank you for your answer.

Hello spark,

sorry, I got you wrong.

Yes, indeed it is possible to use smeared data directly from a Kratkty camera to determine some 'smeared' parameters, e.g. radius of gyration, Porod, Guinier constant, etc...
This is for example done in 'PS' (Plot System), which has been developed at the Institute of 'Biophysik and Röntgenstrukturforschung' of the Austrian Academie of Science.

Hi SAXSIST,
sorry if I ask you again. So it is true that a modern Kratky system comes already with a program smearing the data?
Is it essential to smear the data or not, please? I mean would it work without it as well?
Sorry, not sure about this. Thank you for the clarification.
Kind regards
Spark.

Hello Spark,

the software is called "Plot System - PS" and can work with data directly coming from the KKK. However, it depends which parameters you are looking for, according to the principle smeared data in . smeared data out!
